Foke: Fake Wokeness

Being woke went from being something people should aspire to be and evolved into something less positive and constructive. It went from a being a state of mind and became a label. It went from being understood as a spectrum/scale and became something binary–you are or you’re not.

It became a label that simply demonstrates one’s supposed state of perceived intellectual superiority.

“Wokeness” is used by some nowadays as a way to show off how knowledgeable they are and as a tool to be dismissive and condescending to the seemingly “less woke.” It became a peeing contest: a way to grandstand and display your wits and “wokeness”, versus being a gift and an opportunity to share and learn, to educate and to enlighten.

In essence, some of us are now “foke”: we bastardized and corrupted something positive in order to show off and pander to our own hubress.
